Join with your neighbors in Great Barrington and all over Berkshire County to scare away the COVID-19 virus from our towns–and show everyone that we’re all in this together to fight the pandemic.
The Great Barrington Historical Society proposes that our towns become a symbol of hope. Imagine if in October every homeowner and business created a scarecrow and placed it on their front porch or front lawn or business window!
The scarecrow has been used for over 3,000 years by the Egyptians, Japanese, Greeks, and Romans to scare away unwanted pests. It is a totem of death and fear because it serves as a reminder of starvation if the crows eat the harvest. BUT, at the same time, it is a symbol of HOPE, prosperity, and of a good harvest that provides plenty for all.
Join in the fun, separately yet together, and show the world we can beat this!
